Electric-vehicle energy cost index — Canada

This index applies the market's reference energy prices to three driving profiles. It isolates energy: vehicle price, financing, insurance, maintenance, taxes and resale still need a separate comparison.

Central result

At 15,000 km per year, the scenario estimates about $380 for electricity versus $1,790 for gasoline, an annual energy-only difference of $1,400 in the EV's favour.

Calculation method

Electric = distance × electric consumption ÷ 100 × kWh price

Gasoline = distance × fuel consumption ÷ 100 × price per litre

This is an energy index, not full TCO. Mostly public charging, cold weather, highway use or different real consumption can materially change the result.
